Concert Synopsis

Verdi composed his dramatic Requiem after a thirty year break from sacred music. He was inspired by the deaths of the composer Rossinin and author Alessandro Manzoni. Verdi’s Requiem is something of a marvel, featuring stirring, blazing fanfares and lyrical vocal duets, combined with magical stillness and choral splendour.
