Concert Synopsis
This concert continues The Bach Choir’s strong tradition of both heritage and innovation, as Fauré’s Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine are paired with two new works composed during lockdown.
Vision of a Garden, by Ivor Novello award-winner Richard Blackford, sets a moving text by choir member Peter Johnstone.
It incorporates text from diaries written for Johnstone by NHS staff during his many weeks on a ventilator to battle and overcome COVID-19.
The concert begins with The Promise – an emotive unaccompanied work presented alongside a powerful short film.
Vaughan Williams’ Tallis Fantasia showcases the trademark warmth and beauty of the Philharmonia’s string section. Prior to this we will be joined by singers from an NHS choir to sing the Tallis Hymn set to new words.
The more than 150 singers of The Bach Choir return to the concert platform with an afternoon of reflection and hope for the future.
20% discount available to NHS Staff and Blue Light Card Holders with the promo code NHSBACH.
