“Probably the finest independent choir in the world”

The Bach Choir's Repertoire

The Bach Choir The Bach Choir - from Bach to Burrell Over the past twenty-five years The Bach Choir has performed well over 200 works, in more than 80 different venues around the world, and with over 350 soloists, orchestras, choirs and conductors.

Despite its size - the Choir has around 220 active members - it does not restrict itself to the 'standard' choral repertoire. Acclaimed for the lightness and control of its singing, the Choir has achieved considerable success with performances of a wide variety of choral works from the 16th century to the present day. The Choir regularly commissions new works: in August 2001 it gave the world premiere of Sir John Tavener's Song of the Cosmos at the BBC Proms, and since then has given four further world premieres of works by Naji Hakim, Diana Burrell, Carl Rütti and Vaughan Williams. A major new work, commissioned by the Choir from leading composer Bob Chilcott, will be premiered in 2012.
