Vaughan Williams CD Vaughan Williams - Sancta Civitas, Dona Nobis Pacem
Christina Pier (soprano), Andrew Staples (tenor), Matthew Brook (baritone), The Bach Choir, Winchester Cathedral Choristers, Winchester College Quiristers, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, David Hill (conductor)

The Bach Choir's latest recording in its English series for Naxos, released on 29 March 2010. Sancta Civitas is one of Vaughan Williams' most visionary choral and orchestral works. It was given its first London performance by The Bach Choir in 1926, with Vaughan Williams conducting. Dona nobis pacem, a plea for peace, juxtaposes Biblical texts with those by Walt Whitman and John Bright. "Keen orchestral colours and pure diction from the chorus and choristers combine with Hill's vivid reading of both scores to make this pairing a superb new addition to collectors' shelves." (Choir & Organ). Shortlisted for a Gramophone Award 2010.
Recorded in September 2009 in The Lighthouse, Poole.
